Our recent scientific works have shown the potential for the restoration of an articular surface and revealed that transplantation of chondrocytes and mesenchymal stem cells have the potential to stimulate the formation of a new articular surface. The regenerated cartilage with adipose stem cells is fibrocartilage as opposed to hyaline articular cartilage and is thinner than native cartilage, application of hyaluronic acid gel resulted in regeneration of a thicker, more hyaline-like cartilage.
